OVERVIEW

Infants are in their most vulnerable and important period of life. Initially, they are totally dependent on adults to meet their every need. We recognize that if the care and experiences a baby receives are nurturing consistent, and loving, your child will flourish. Almost everyday you will see exiting changes as your child learns to trust, joyfully explore the environment that has been created, make discoveries, care about others, and begin to see themselves as competent learners. The foundation of our infant program is that infants who receive high quality care are more likely to become sociable, capable preschoolers who get along with others, demonstrate self-control and develop a love of learning.

No matter where your baby is in his/her development, the infant program at KKLC is specially designed to accommodate your child’s every need.

YOUR INFANT'S DAY

The Infant suite does not have a formulated daily schedule. Your baby is the boss. We will make sure that your infant’s feeding, diapering and sleeping needs are met; according to her own routine. If she is not eating, being changed or getting her beauty sleep, she is developing special relationships with her peers. When your baby is awake, she is being challenged and stimulated with songs, playing, or simply being held and talked to by her teacher.

The kinds of activities the teacher engages in with your child are carefully chosen each week to help her reach developmental milestone and objectives in each of the following developmental areas:

  • Language Development/Receptive & Expressive
  • Creative Arts/Exploration
  • Gross Motor
  • Fine Motor
  • Self Help Skills
  • Relationship Building/Socio-emotional

THE INFANT SUITE

The Infant Suite at KKLC provides high quality care designed with the parent and child in mind. To simulate a home away from home environment, our infant suite is divided into three separate areas: The Nursery, The Activity Room, and The Step-Up Room.

The Nursery has been created to provide a warm, nurturing environment where children can rest, cuddle, play with plush toys, listen to soft lullabies and receive constant love and attention. Here you will find pastel-colored décor, personal cribs with dresser draws, rocking chairs/gliders, soft playscapes and much more!

The Activity Room has been designed to be emotionally supportive and individually responsive. Bright primary colors and a variety of cause and effect toys, push toys, pull up bars, mirrors, and soft building blocks will awaken your baby’s senses and encourage growth and exploration.

The Step Up Room has been designed to simulate a “classroom”. With child-sized tables and chairs, mirrored walls and soft, cozy playscapes throughout, your baby will be delighted with her new classroom. The Step Up Room helps your child make the transition from infancy to toddlerhood. Children are upright, eating table food and taking scheduled naps daily. They no longer sleep in cribs but learn to sleep on mats like the rest of the children in the center. In the Step Up Room, everyone is on the same schedule and doing the same activities at the same time.

CURRICULUM

Infants are in the most vulnerable and important period of life. Initially, they are totally dependent on adults to meet their every need. We recognize that if the care and experiences a baby receives are nurturing, consistent, and loving, your child will flourish.

Almost every day you will see exciting changes as your child learns to trust, joyfully explore the environment that has been created, make discoveries, care about others, and begin to see themselves as competent learners. The foundation of our curriculum is to ensure that every infant receives high-quality care and learning experiences so that they become sociable, capable preschoolers who get along with others, demonstrate self-control, and love learning.

Our infant curriculum is developmentally appropriate and separated by age: 3-6 months, 6-9 months, and 9-12 months. It is multisensory and uses activities that actively engage and stimulates your baby through social interaction, talking, playing, moving, singing, reading, and signing. Specifically our curriculum uses activity cards, photographic books, plush puppets, and music CDs.

Activities are integrated across all domains of infant development including physical, emotional, social, and intellectual. Through our infant curriculum, an emotionally supportive environment and nurturing caregivers each child develops a wide variety of skills including: language acquisition, sense of self, sensory awareness, gross motor skills and more!

In addition, the infant curriculum at KKLC incorporates American Sign Language and baby yoga!

To ensure that infants are developing appropriately, our teachers informally assess each child on a daily basis. If they notice a milestone accomplishment, they will write down the objective number and the time that it happened. This information is placed in the infant’s portfolio and shared with parents during the goodbyes at the end of the day and/or during parent/teacher conferences.
