Our Story

Glatfelter’s Barber Shop is a family owned and operated business proudly serving Lancaster County and it’s surrounding area for over 108 years.  Founded in 1912 by Mr. Fred Andes, it was the first barber Shop in town. 

In 1948 Fred hired Richard Glatfelter to help him in the shop. And two years later in 1950 sold the shop to Richard. Glatfelter’s Barber Shop was born. Richard would go on to own and operate the shop for 50 years before selling the shop to Steve "Pop" Kopp in 2000. Richard would continue to work part time for Steve until his official retirement in 2008. 

Steve "Pop" Kopp graduated from the Harrisburg Barber School in 1972. And has enjoyed his 50 years of serving the public in his barbering career and continues to do this each day. Over his 50 years Steve has owned five Barber Shops and one Beauty Salon. Entrepreneurship has always been deeply rooted in Steve's heart in business. In August of 2019 Steve decided it was time to allow his son Scott to take over ownership Glatfelter’s Barber Shop. However, Steve still remains on staff part time. 

Scott Kopp and his wife Kelli took over ownership of the shop in August of 2019. A few changes to the shop have been made to continue to update the shop, however, keeping the feeling of the “Old Fashioned” Barber Shop alive shall always remain to be felt from the second you walk through the door.

The "I NEED YOUR HEAD IN MY BUSINESS" sign is an iconic feature in East Petersburg.  The sign was designed by Dick Glatfelter, and continues to attract the attention of visitors and residents alike.

Richard's practice of collecting license plates was display in the barber shop for years.  Customers would stop by and drop unique plates off to Richard. You can still see several framed displays at the barber shop.
