What We Believe

RIVERTON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH beliefs are in harmony with the Doctrinal Standards of the United Methodist Church.  We are disciples of Jesus Christ in the historical company of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism.  Wesleyan theology has been summarized in this way:

  • *All need to be saved     *All may be saved     *All may know that they are saved      *All may be saved to the utmost   Our Values
  • Biblical Truth Expressed: We are convinced that God has not left us to the meager guidance of our own reason, but has revealed absolute Truth in Scripture as the authoritative Word of God for us to believe and live out.   Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)
  •
  • Discipleship Expressed: Recognizing that the life of a maturing Christian requires a dedication to spiritual growth, we are committed to personal devotion, small groups, transparency with one another, and the application of Biblical truth so that we may become more Christ-like in character.
  • Scripture: Colossians 1:9b-12 (NIV)

  • Integrity Expressed: For the sake of our witness for Christ, we will hold ourselves and one another accountable to be consistent with a Biblical standard of ethics and morality by continually pursuing holiness of heart and life. Scripture: Proverbs 11:3 (NIV)

  • Love Expressed: We are committed to loving one another with Christ’s love. We will welcome the stranger, love others unconditionally, and value relationships and unity in the body of Christ. Scripture: John 13:34-35 (NIV)

  • Missions Expressed: We will make the gospel fully known, wherever God calls us, through service to all people by word, deed, signs and wonders in the power of the Holy Spirit. Scripture: Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)

  • Prayer Expressed: We are a church devoted to passionate prayer so that we may glorify God, come to know Him better, and enjoy the benefits of His presence, power, and provision. Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)

  • Redemption Expressed: We are committed to ministries that redeem lives and relationships. It is the freely given, unearned grace of Jesus Christ that redeems and restores all who call on His name as Lord and Savior. Scripture: Romans 3:22-24 (NIV)

  • Worship Expressed: God alone is worthy of our worship. We will worship Him in spirit and in truth, both as the body of Christ and as individuals. Out of our great love for God, we will present ourselves every day as living sacrifices to our Lord and Savior. Scripture: Romans 12:1 (NIV)
  • When we use the term "saved" what we mean is that we all can come into a right relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ by the aid of the Holy Spirit.  As a result of this right relationship with God we are set free from bondage to sin, set free from a distorted sense of self, and set free from the skewed value system of society.  Through faith in Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit we are given new-birth and a new-beginning.  We also find that through faith in Christ we begin to come into right relationship with others and ourselves.  Through faith in Christ we receive the gift of eternal life, which is a quality of life that begins in the here and now and will endure forever in the kingdom of God. *Read the Doctrinal Standards of the United Methodist Church through this link.

No matter where you are or what season of life you are in, you are welcome here. As followers of Christ, and as recipients of his love, grace and mercy, we seek to know Him and to offer Him freely to everyone we encounter.

Both our 8:30am and 10 a.m. worship services are at the heart of who we are and what we are about in Jesus Christ. We want to be an indispensable part of our community as we worship together, grow together, and serve God by serving His world. Because many of us come from different traditions and musical style and familiarity enhances our experience, we offer both every Sunday.

Our Nursery, Children’s Church, and Christian Education abide by Safe Sanctuaries recommendations. Riverton welcomes everyone including those with special needs. We have an elevator, and have wheelchair accessibility throughout the church. And we provide hearing assistance devices in our worship service.

Come visit us and see for yourself what God is doing in and through Riverton United Methodist Church.
