Here’s how to make Greek seasoning! This tasty homemade mix features Mediterranean herbs like oregano and dill, perfect for vegetables, fish, dips and more.

Greek seasoning

Want a seasoning blend that captures the magic of the Mediterranean? Try this Greek seasoning! This mix of spices is simple but absolutely full of flavor. While there are lots of Greek seasoning blends out there, homemade seasoning blends skip the additives and preservatives of store-bought versions. Plus, you can customize the salt content to your liking. The first time Alex and I tried this seasoning, we were blown away! We like it even better than Italian seasoning: it great sprinkled on shrimp, fish, vegetables, and dips.

What’s Greek seasoning?

There’s no official definition of something like Greek seasoning, versus more standardized blends like Old Bay or even taco seasoning. There’s no such thing as Greek seasoning in Greece! It’s a spice blend that was created as a convenience for cooks to quickly add Mediterranean flair to dishes.

Mixes you’ll find at the store contain herbs that are common in Greek cuisine, like oregano and dill. Beyond that, there’s not a lot of standardization!

How long to store homemade seasoning

You can store your homemade Greek seasoning mix in an airtight container for 6 months to 1 year. Of course, it’s best when it’s the freshest! Spices last in a cool, dry place for 8 months to 1 year. You can use this spice blend to add new life to spices that you’ve had for a while.

  1. I LOVE! making my own blends. I prepare different spice blends (for BBQ, Pork Rub, Fajita, etc.). Totally worth the effort in preparing ahead of time. Thank you for the Greek!!! PS My friends think I’m an amazing cook…I’m not… I actually call myself a lazy cook…lol .. Having an Air Fryer has changed my life. Rub & cook! Too easy. Cheers!
