Categories

Welcome to our tutorial on managing your eCommerce catalog's categories. Categories are a collection of similar products, and combined with sub categories allow your customers to quickly and easily find the specific type of product they are looking for. This tutorial will explain how to add new categories and subcategories to your eCommerce. To begin click the arrow below next to Create a New Category and our visual guide will appear. To advance to the next step simply click the next button inside the box.

  • From the navigation menu, choose Catalog> Manage Categories.
  • In the category list on the left, click the category you want to add the new one to. If the new category is a standalone, you should click Default Category instead.
  • Click Add Subcategory.
  • Enter a Name.
  • Set Is Active to Yes.
  • URL Key can be left blank, and it will be automatically generated based off the name you entered.

  • Choose Yes or No for Include in Navigation Menu.
  • Thumbnail Image, Description, Image, Page Title, Meta Keywords, and Meta Description are not required, but you can enter information for them as wanted.
  • Click Display Settings.
  • If you want the products in this category to be filterable (by price, attributes, etc), set Is Anchor to Yes.
  • When you're finished, click Save Category.
  • From the navigation menu, choose Catalog> Manage Categories.
  • In the category list on the left, click the category you want to add products to.
  • Click Category Products.
  • Click Reset Filter.
  • Check the box for each product that you want to add to the category. If you want to sort the products in a specific way, you can enter values for Position. The lower values will be displayed first.
  • When you're finished, click Save Category.
